Artist Statement

The message is paramount. Professional artists are confronted daily with the decision of personal artistry and cow towing to the preferences of the audience (or more prevalently, the marketeers). I will no longer use the word “sellout”. It will always be tied to a choice between making a living and being selfish, regardless of scale. I put it that way to illustrate the inverse polar characterizations. Refusing to dilute one's vision for the sake of obsession or arrogance is selfish, there's no point denying it. Churning out swill to keep the pantry stocked is nothing to be ashamed of. Starving to keep a piece dissonant or grotesque

inundated with memories

Submitting 3 pieces for publication in a local literary printing, so I went through all my old poems on here to pick out some stuff. It's weird reading one's old writings. It's not like I remember every single word I've written. In fact I write exactly so I will not lose them. So it's like reading something someone else wrote (some times) It was neat to read the good ones and think "wow... how did i even write this?" And then it was painful to have to wince through all the duds ^_^' Plus reliving all the stuff that inspired them I feel like I've gotten worse as a poet Somewhere along the way I picked up (writing) habits that have fucke
